Just Because There’s More Than One Way to Skin a Cat…
Has anyone ever told you that there is more than one way to skin a cat? It’s an old saying that’s useful to win an argument when there are multiple ways to do something. However, even though this saying is true and useful, doesn’t make it always right.
Just because there’s more than one way to skin a cat doesn’t mean you should skin a cat more than one way. To that end, just because you find a process doesn’t mean it’s the best process. Moreover, committing to a process is better than starting and stopping and then starting again on different processes.
Take for example the process to pursue a goal. If you set a new goal, do you think it’s best to just search Google and try whatever method you find first to help you achieve that goal? This is the equivalent of what many people do. But what’s worse is that they only follow this method for a bit until they get bored with it or don’t see results fast enough.
Then they hear about another process from a friend and immediately decide to switch to that for a while. Then they see something on YouTube that looks like it will work even better and give that a try as well. Subsequently, after weeks and weeks of trying different things, they are only marginally closer to their goal.
This process is exactly what NOT to do when you want to pursue a new goal. The process to pursue a goal requires committing to a process, not trying any and every process. The undeniable truth is that the actual execution of the process you choose is more important than the process you choose.
Yes, the old saying that there’s more than one way to skin a cat is true. But don’t forget that it’s counterproductive to skin a cat more than one way. What’s more, switching from one process to another is just as counterproductive. To achieve almost anything, it takes consistency not options.
