My name is Christopher Mance II and I’m a mental skills coach and certified sport psychology coach (CSPC) in Atlanta, GA. The athletes and parents I work with call me Coach Chris. I teach clients the mental skills that lead to mental toughness, resilience, confidence, emotional intelligence, and focus.
I’m a former high school wrestler, the son of a wrestler, and the dad of two young wrestlers. My experiences on and around the mat significantly shapes how I coach, my world view, and my parenting style.
I’m passionate about helping athletes, families, and teams succeed using mental skills. Research shows that those who know how to be happy while working their hardest have the best success rates. As a matter of fact, research (as well as my experience) shows that the proper use of mental skills increases happiness.
This is why I began providing mental skills coaching for sports parents, athletes, and teams.
My coaching is primarily focused on developing mental skills in five areas:
- Mental Toughness (persisting through pain, pressure, discipline, boredom, repetition, fear, and fatigue)
- Resilience (behaving competently when facing adversity and bouncing back when adversity leads to loss)
- Confidence (trusting that you can and will succeed)
- Emotional Intelligence ( self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management)
- Focus (directing attention to what matters while blocking out distractions)

My Bio
I went to high school in New Jersey where I was a three sport athlete in football, wrestling, and track. I received a varsity letter in all three sports, and served as the captain of both the football and wrestling teams. After high school I attended the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1996. At West Point I played on the Army West Point football team. A few years later I went on to launch my first business while getting a master’s degree in software engineering at Florida A&M University.
After I finished up grad school, I moved to Atlanta, GA where I worked full-time as a consultant and ran an online media business on the side. I did this for 10 years while working full-time as a consultant and project manager at Accenture, Amdocs, and finally Lockheed Martin.
I left Lockheed Martin to focus full-time on a startup named Nichevertising. Nichevertising is a software solution I built to help emerging thought leaders engage with the journalist and influencers in their niche, and then turn this engagement into press, subscribers and sales. However, I shut down the company in August 2015 because I realized that I wasn’t following my true passion – helping athletes maximize their potential.
With the help of a mentor I found this purpose as I began working at a executive coaching consulting firm after I shut down my startup. However, things really started to click for me in early 2018 when I started consulting for one of the firm’s key faith-based clients.
During this time, I got heavily involved in this client’s faith-based mission. In addition, I also got the opportunity to help facilitate several strategic planning retreats for other non-profit clients. These experiences brought me closer to my faith and my purpose to serve. Working with such passionate leaders of faith on a day to day basis changed my mindset about the possibilities for my career. And as the saying goes, change your mindset, change your life.
Helping leaders plan and execute their strategic plans made a light bulb go off in my head. I realized that my purpose in life was to combine my experiences from being an entrepreneur, software engineer, project manager, consultant, coach, dad, husband, and youth sports advocate. The culmination of these experiences puts me in the unique position to help parents, athletes, and teams unlock potential hiding in plain sight.
This is how I began providing mental skills coaching for parents, athletes, and teams.
