How Do You Know if a Better Version of You Exists?

How Do You Know if a Better Version of You Exists?

I’m on a monster streak right now. In fact, today is day 1097 of my writing streak. June 28th also represents the 3-year anniversary of me starting this streak.

I can confidently say that this streak of writing has changed my life. What started as a daily goal has become a career change. Moreover, I am living proof that all personal growth and development starts with a daily routine and developing healthy habits.

Over the last 3 years, I have had laser-like focus on establishing a game winning routine for my life. I’ve spent countless hours over the years researching the subject of habits and routines.

My first “aha” moment in learning was in 2014 when I asked myself, what if a habit is not an addiction?  I found that if a habit is not an addiction you still need will power, discipline and self-control to do it again the next time.  It doesn’t even matter if you’ve done it for 66 days in a row, as some research suggest.

My second “aha” moment came in 2018 when I realized how much motivation I get out of tracking my consecutive days of success, or as I like to call it routine streaks. This is the motivation I use each day to continue this journey to research and write each day about the mental skills that help people become the best version of themselves.

This recognition of how I can motivate myself using routine streaks is ultimately a product of my self-awareness. The more self-aware you are, the more opportunity you have to grow and develop into a better version of yourself.

This is my “aha” moment for you today. You can’t become a better version of yourself if you aren’t aware that a better version of you exists. Correspondingly, to know that a better version of you exist you must start by knowing two things:

  1. What your strengths are and how to get better using them.
  2. Where you want to go in life and how to motivate yourself to go there.
