A Warning for Athletes Struggling with Mental Toughness and Confidence
I have a simple warning for parents and coaches of athletes who struggle with mental toughness or confidence problems. Just like most problems, mental toughness and confidence problems don’t solve themselves. In fact, they get worse with time.
If you see a young athlete in middle school having problems with mental toughness or confidence, it’s your responsibility to deal with that problem immediately. If you don’t, when that athlete gets to high school the problem will just continue to fester. Likewise, if an athlete is having a mental toughness or confidence problem in high school, it’s possible that the problem will haunt them not only in college but throughout adulthood.
In my coaching practice, I have a specific program to help athletes with each of these issues. First, there is my confidence coaching program. This program can take as little as 12 weeks to start producing results. As you may know, you can’t “teach” confidence. Teachers use worksheets, lectures, and books. Conversely, my confidence coaching program improves an athlete’s confidence using processes, not lesson plans and speeches. Next, I have a 14-day mental toughness course. This program focuses on building an athlete’s self-awareness first, then developing habits and routines that progressively build mental toughness.
The goal of these two programs is to provide the athlete and the parents with the tools and skills they need to integrate developing confidence and mental toughness into their lifestyle. I design my programs to make sure the learning permeates beyond the time we spend working together. My purpose is to help you identify the root cause of the problem and solve it.
