What to Do When You Are Terrible At Taking Your Own Advice

I’ve been blessed with the gift of being good at giving advice and holding others accountable. Conversely, I never mistake this for believing I’m good at doing this for myself. Like most other people, I’m not very good at taking my own advice. Therefore, I enlist outside counsel for help. This comes in the forum of mentors and coaches.

Like me, you may be very capable of providing good advice and
counsel to other people. Also like me, it’s likely you’re terrible at taking your own advice. This is why coaching and mentoring is often the critical differentiator for those who do and do not reach their goals.

No matter what stage of life you are in, finding a trusted adviser to coach you to the next level is probably the best investment in yourself you can make. Athletes and executives have been proving this for years. However, just because the coaching you need doesn’t fit into that traditional thinking, doesn’t mean a coach is not the missing piece you need right now.
