The Big Difference Between People Who Focus on Process vs. Outcomes

Some people are all about the end game, the outcome. Other people are all about the preparation, the process.

The big difference between those who focus on process vs. outcomes is that people who focus on process are more satisfied with life. Or to put it differently, process people are happier on the journey to outcomes.

As a matter of fact, a research study by psychologist David Niven shows that “life satisfaction is 22 percent more likely for those with a steady stream of minor accomplishments than those who express interest only in major accomplishments.

Those steady stream of minor accomplishments are the process. Process is the act of doing. Process is all about preparation, practice, and breaking down difficult goals into small manageable goals.

Those major accomplishments are the outcomes. When all of your energy is on the outcome, you forget to enjoy the process and this is what causes people to be less happy in life.

In short, process is about the present and outcomes are about the future. If you focus on the process, you are happy in the present. If you focus on outcomes, your happiness will always be in the future. However, that future may or may not ever materialize.

Shifting from an Outcome to a Process Mindset

If you are an outcome person who wants to shift to a process person, then you must know what processes you need to achieve the outcomes you want, and then execute them in a way that brings you joy. Moreover, you must also know what you don’t know so you can get someone to help you figure it out.

This is what I do. I will help you and / or your team take what you know and clearly define it as a process for executing as daily and weekly routines. Then, we will work on what you don’t know by exploring you and /or your team’s personality traits to put in place unique processes that take how you pursue difficult goals to the next level.

This is what I do and this is what I’m passionate about. If you are interested in learning more about my coaching program and how to get started, contact me here.
