The Most Important Step in the Process of Improvement
If you want to improve at anything, you must find a process that will lead to improvement. The problem is that there are often multiple processes to choose from. As the old saying goes, there’s more than one way to skin a cat. However, I like to say that it’s also counterproductive to skin a cat more than one way.
Therefore, the most important step in the process of improvement is to make a commitment to stick to a process instead of trying any and every process. The undeniable truth is that the execution of the process you choose is more important than the process you choose. Indeed, you can have the perfect process with bad execution and make no progress. On the other hand, you could have a bad process with perfect execution and still make some progress.
Moreover, constantly switching from one process to another is just as counterproductive as bad execution. So, if you want to get better at anything, commitment to a process and following through with competent execution is the most important step you can take.
