Two Steps to Finding Out If There is a Better Version of You

Two Steps to Finding Out If There is a Better Version of You

You can’t become a better version of yourself if you aren’t aware that a better version of you exists. Correspondingly, to know that a better version of you exist you must start by knowing two things:

1) What Your Strengths Are and How to Get Better Using Them

Discovering my strengths and then committing to using them every day literally changed my life. 1,463 days ago I went on a quest to activate my strength called Intellection by the Gallup Strengthsfinder. Gallup suggest those with this strength theme should:

  • Consider beginning or continuing your studies in philosophy, literature, or psychology. You will always enjoy subject matter areas that stimulate your thinking.
  • List your ideas in a log or a diary. These ideas will serve as grist for your mental mill, and might yield valuable insights.
  • Take time to write. Writing might be the best way to crystallize and integrate your thoughts.
  • Find people who like to talk about the same issues you do. Organize a discussion group that addresses subjects of interest to you.

All these suggested actions are right down my alley. As a result, I took this “Intellection” strength and was off to the races. I started writing every day, researching sports psychology, and immersing myself with people and ideas that help me help sports parents, teams, and athletes activate the best version of themselves.

Here I am today 1,463 days later, and I haven’t taken even a one-day break from using this strength. I have written an article each day in this blog since then, and each day I hit the publish button on WordPress I use my strengths to make myself and others better.

So, my suggestion to you is to apply the same principles to your life. Start by taking the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment to understand your own strengths, then act on what you learn.

2) Where You Want to Go in Life and How to Motivate Yourself to Go There

Knowing where you want to go and how to motivate yourself to go there amounts to finding your life’s purpose. To find purpose in life you must learn how to listen to your intuition.  Your intuition is your natural ability to understand something immediately.  Everyday your intuition is whispering ideas, connections, opportunities, and innovations to both your conscious and unconscious mind.

Most people let these intuition whispers come and go like background noise. However, if you want to find the best version of yourself in life you must tap into these whispers.  As a matter of fact, there is one type of intuition whisper in particular you must learn how to listen to — need whispers.

There isn’t a day that goes by you don’t see something that needs fixing or changing.  The funny thing is that everyone doesn’t notice the same needs.  Unfortunately, we think that everyone does, and wonder why someone else doesn’t do something about it. Someone else doesn’t do something about it because other people aren’t noticing what you are noticing in the same way you notice it.

Some of us notice things that need organizing, some of us notice people that need help, while others notice business or civic needs.  The list goes on and on. Furthermore, the minor details on what each person notices are different as well.

The first thing to remember about these need whispers is that they are innate to you.  Need whispers come from your intuition. Therefore, the first step to find purpose in life is to do something about the reoccurring need whispers floating in your head.

If you keep recognizing the same needs everywhere you turn, that’s your intuition providing you with a compass towards your purpose in life.

Your job is to take the first step to follow this compass. This means you must start working on a game plan. A game plan that includes an analysis of your strengths, passions, and motivations. A game plan that “writes the vision and makes it plain” so you can execute without hesitation. Furthermore, this game plan is what you need to find and pursue the best version of yourself.

Not only would I love to help you create this game plan, but I’m also prepared to help you take thoughtful and strategic action immediately. If you would like to learn more about how I can help you get started, contact me here.
