The Destination for Elite Athletes vs. Average Athletes
What makes an elite athlete elite is that they learn how to make it through the grueling process of going from good to great. What keeps an average athlete average is that they don’t make it through that process.
Herein Lies the difference between the destination for elite athletes vs. average athletes. The process of process! Elite athletes make it through the grueling process of going from good to great because they take complete and total control of that process. Average athletes focus on goals such as winning, rankings, and popularity, which they have no control over. Indeed, these goals are fine to use as a compass, but their terrible to use as a destination. Specifically, because athletes have no control over outcome goals.
To be an elite athlete, the destination must be to master what you control: the process to prepare and execute. The process tells an athlete when to work, what to work on, how long to work and how much to do in the allotted time.
Outcome goals take care of themself once an athlete takes control and masters their process.
