Easy is not Good for You

Easy is not Good for You

Given the choice to do something the hard way or the easy way seems like it’s not a choice at all. Easy is easy because it feels better and choosing what feels better tends to be the better choice when all other things are equal.

However, in most things in life all other things are not equal. Most notably, access to resources is not equal. If most people choose the easy way, then taking the easy way makes things harder because there is scarcity in crowds. This is a fact. Furthermore, when most people make the same choice, that choice skews towards average. Correspondingly, average choices lead to average results.

For example, it’s easy to oversleep until you have no choice but to get up. It’s easy to pass time clicking around on your phone or consuming entertainment. Complaining is easy. Procrastination is easy. Eating fast food is easy. Living in fear is easy. These are all choices average people make, and therefore lead to average results.

While easy may sound good, smell good, taste good, and feel good to you, easy is not good for you.
