The First Step to Achieving a Goal Starts with the Goal Itself

The first step to achieving a goal is the most important step. While this may seem obvious, what’s not so obvious is that the first step is always the same no matter what the goal may be. This means the first step to achieving any goal is a fundamental principal that has the biggest impact on success or failure.

This fundamental principal is that the goal itself must not be the “goal”. A goal in the traditional since is an outcome. But you can’t use an outcome to achieve an outcome. Therefore, the first step to achieving a goal is to change your goal into behaviors.

Unquestionably, you will only reach the outcome you want if your behavior represents what it takes to reach that outcome. This is why your behavior must be your goal, not the outcome of the behavior.

If you don’t know what behaviors represent what it takes to reach the outcome you want, then you probably won’t achieve that outcome until you do. If you do know the behaviors but continuously choose not to behave that way, then stop kidding yourself. The outcome you want will be unrealistic until you change your behavior.

Simply stated, behaviors are what separates people who achieve their goals from everyone else. Outcome goals don’t matter if you don’t understand this fundamental principal of behavior goals.
