The Fun vs. Satisfaction Mindset
One of the primary mindsets that has the biggest impact on how you live your life is the fun vs. satisfaction mindset. The fun mindset is one in which your motivation comes from doing things that feel good. In other words, this mindset requires the immediate gratification that fun provides to stimulate motivation.
On the other hand, the satisfaction mindset is one in which your motivation comes from progress. In other words, this mindset requires goals and motivation comes from doing things to get closer to those goals.
I would also like to note that an activity can satisfy you and not be fun and vice versa. Moreover, people often use these terms interchangeably, but practically they mean different things. For example, when a successful person describes hard work as fun, they are really saying it’s satisfying. For them, working hard to get better at something they’re passionate about is fun even when it doesn’t provide immediate gratification.
So, why should you care? Well, think about it like this. When you are trying to push yourself to reach a difficult goal, stop looking to do things that are fun. Instead look to do things that provide you with satisfaction. When goals are not important, a fun mindset may be beneficial.
