The Most Important Decision You Can Make Today
Life is the culmination of a series of decisions. In fact, you are reading this right now because of a decision. One in which I hope you will benefit from by gaining a tiny bit of wisdom from this short rant about the most important decision you can make today.
While this may be a slight exaggeration for emphasis, confidence is the single most important ingredient that separates average, good, and great. Moreover, confidence is a decision. Therefore, the most important decision you can make today is to have confidence.
The essence of confidence is the belief that you can and will succeed. This belief does not come out of thin air. It’s not something you’re born with and it’s not something a parent, friend, or coach can talk you into believing. To believe that you can and will succeed is a matter of preparation. As such, to decide to have confidence is to decide to prepare, and preparation is a matter of process.
This famous quote by Abraham Lincoln provides the perfect metaphor to explain this rationale:
Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.
Indeed, this process of sharpening the axe is what gives you the confidence to chop down the tree. Furthermore, deciding to sharpen the axe before you chop down the tree is a decision to prepare. Today, make the decision to apply this mindset to whatever metaphorical tree you must chop down in your life.
