The Mindset of Attacking vs. The Mindset of Reacting
When it’s time to compete, your mindset will either focus on attacking or reacting. While the ability to react is beneficial, focusing too much on reacting is counterproductive.
When your mindset is set on reacting, this causes you to neglect the tactics and skills that utilize your own strengths. To put it another way, instead of focusing on your strengths, you will focus on reacting to other people’s strengths or the environment’s strengths. Consequently, you give away the opportunity to dictate the rules of engagement.
This reactive approach rarely works. It drives your attention away from dictating the pace, space, and skills that allow you to be at your best. This almost always leads to a decrease in performance.
