Jerry Seinfeld’s Secret to Success Summed up in One Word
I will be the first to tell you there is NO secret to success. However, there is a secret to YOUR success and there is a secret to MY success, and there is a secret to Jerry Seinfeld’s success. While this may appear contradictory, it’s not.
The truth is that there really is no ONE secret to success. There are millions of secrets. Moreover, each secret is unique to the person who is seeking success. My secret to success is likely going to be different than your secret, which is also going to be different than Jerry Seinfeld’s secret to success.
This is why reading a post like this in which I will soon share Jerry Seinfeld’s secret to success can often be so disappointing. What you will learn from Jerry Seinfeld’s secret to success won’t be groundbreaking. It’s going to be one of those same things you always read.
But I would still argue reading it again is beneficial even though it’s not groundbreaking. What we all must understand about success is that the secret is in mastering the basics, not the complexities of life.
With this in mind, you can sum up Jerry Seinfeld’s secret to success in one word.
Consistency
A recent article covering Jerry Seinfeld’s near-billionaire status (net worth of ~ $950 million) on INC.com made Jerry Seinfeld’s secret to success not so secret anymore.
You can’t control other people. You can’t control timing. You can’t control luck.
When you think about it, there are very few things you can control.
Except how hard — and how consistently — you work. So, if your definition of success includes, at least in part, traditional measures like wealth and professional achievement, consistent effort is the great equalizer.
Again, I’m 100% sure you’ve heard this before. Consistency is that critical character trait we all need to achieve anything meaningful. This is not a secret. Yet, it can be your secret if you embrace it as one of your core values.
Bottom line is that consistency is a muscle that weakens faster than it strengthens. This means that it’s at least twice as hard to be consistent than it is to quit. Furthermore, consistency only last as you are exercising it, while quitting last forever.
Therefore, if you want consistency to be your secret to success as it is for Jerry Seinfeld, you must be deliberate with your behavior in how you practice consistency. In other words, you must commit to being consistent with your entire being.
