Why Some People Make Mistakes and Get Better While Others Don’t
There are two common types of mistakes all people make. Mistakes that are a result of negligence and mistakes that are a result of trying something difficult. Out of these two types of mistakes, you can only get better with mistakes that are a result of trying something difficult.
Mistakes made from negligence are just that, negligent. Your performance is already below your standard. The only thing you can do is reform your negligent behavior to get back to your standard. That does not make you better, it just makes you status quo. You may learn not to be negligent anymore, but you don’t learn how to get better.
On the other hand, doing things that are difficult require that you push yourself beyond your status quo. Moreover, the process of pushing yourself is what you need for growth, and growth is what produces better. However, if you’re negligent in your approach to doing things that are difficult you then eliminate your potential to get better.
As a result, the reason why some people make mistakes and get better while others don’t is that those who get better do everything possible to prevent negligence. This means they manage their confidence using the challenge-skill balance, use goal progressions, and adopt the mindset of a person who views their entire life as preparation.
