The Truth About Behavior Change Summed Up in 23 Words
There are thousands of pages of research on behavior change. It’s one of the most researched areas in the field of psychology. Obviously, there is a good reason for this. You’re not a finished product. There is a huge gap between what you are now and what you can become. Moreover, nearly every goal you set as a means to achieve success requires one or more behavior changes.
The research suggest it takes anywhere from 4 to 10 stages of transformation to complete a behavior change. Unquestionably, this is why achieving a goal can be so difficult at times. Changing your behavior is complicated. Therefore, the more you can simplify the transformation process between your current behavior and the new way you must behave to achieve your goal, the greater your chance of success.
With that said, John Maxwell has a fantastic 23 word quote that sums up perfectly how to attack the process of behavior change head on without making it complex. He states:
You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.
I challenge you to find one thing you can change in your daily routine to increase your chance of success. It doesn’t have to be big. In fact, the smaller the better, or what I like to call a minimum viable change. Whatever it is make sure you can track and measure your routine streak and progress. Then find a way to hold yourself accountable so you keep the promise you make to yourself.
