The Simple Reason Why You Can’t Get Better by Going at it Alone

When “better” is the goal at least one other person must be part of the process. Going at it alone just won’t work and there is one simple reason why. In order to get better at anything meaningful a feedback loop must be part of the process.

A feedback loop is a four step process: 1) action, 2) evaluation, 3) feedback, and 4) corrective action. In order to get better, step 2 and 3 must be done by someone who is a qualified expert evaluating the area you want to get better. If it’s done by someone who is anything less than an expert, it’s unlikely the feedback you get will be what you need to get better. If you try to evaluate and give feedback to yourself, you definitely won’t get better.

Unquestionably, getting better is a team sport. The better team you surround yourself with, the better off you will be as you work to get better.
