When Your Mindset is to Counter the Competition This Almost Always Happens
When it’s time to compete, your mindset will either focus on going on the offensive or countering the competition. While the ability to counter what the competition wants to do is beneficial, focusing too much on countering is counterproductive.
When your mindset is to counter the competition, this causes you to neglect the tactics and skills that utilize your own strengths. To put it another way, instead of focusing on your strengths, you will focus on the competition’s strengths. Consequently, the competition dictates the rules of engagement.
This reactive approach rarely works. It drives your attention away from dictating the pace, space, and skills that allow you to be at your best. This almost always leads to a decrease in performance.
