Coach Urban Meyer Breaks Down the Reasons Why Teams Struggle
Coach Urban Meyer is one of three coaches to win a D1 college football national championship at two different universities (University of Florida and Ohio State). Undeniably, his coaching instincts are historically among the best ever. As of now, Meyer’s current role is a football analyst on Fox Sports. Yesterday, I was fortunate to catch a snippet of him providing a flawless breakdown of why teams struggle.
He breaks down the reasons into three categories:
- Trust issues
- Dysfunctional environment
- Selfishness
Furthermore, he suggests that teams often make too many excuses for their struggles without analyzing the “why “. For example, blaming it on bad coaching or bad team members. Instead of making excuses, Meyer urges teams to first dig deep and analyze these three factors. He emphatically states:
Every time I’ve had a team struggle, every time, it’s fallen into one of [these] three categories.
I highly recommend you check out the video snippet with his advice for yourself. While Meyer may be specifically talking about football, his points easily translate to any type of team if you simply use football as a metaphor.
