How You Handle Criticism Says A Lot About Your Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence has four components: 1) self-awareness, 2) self–management, 3) social awareness and 4) relationship management. Each one of these components reflect one’s ability to recognize, understand, and manage emotions.
One of the easiest ways to recognize if someone has high or low emotional intelligence is in how they handle criticism. Those with high emotional intelligence view criticism as an opportunity for growth. On the other hand, those with low emotional intelligence view criticism as a personal attack.
Furthermore, it’s a fact that anybody who does anything worth talking about will get criticized. Those who have high emotional intelligence learn to accept this fact and use it to their advantage. Those who don’t either avoid doing things that are worth talking about altogether or suffer with anxiety and stress that limits their potential.
