Athletes have More Physical Limitations When They Ignore Mental Skills
There comes a point in sports when almost every athlete is just about equal physically. Yet, there are always a few athletes who find an edge and earn elite status. When you only use a naked eye comparison, it appears that elite athletes become elite due to a physical edge. However, this could not be further from the truth.
Every elite athlete who edges the competition earns this edge by developing mental skills not physical skills. These elite athletes use their mental edge in training to develop elite muscle memory. They use their mental edge in strategy to outmaneuver their opponents. In addition, they use their mental edge in coping with pressure to help them perform at elite levels in the clutch.
This is why athletes who ignore developing mental skills will always have a ceiling lower than their true potential. You just can’t develop elite level muscle memory, strategy, and clutch abilities without training your brain. The stereotype that an elite athlete can be a “dumb jock” is a thing of the past.
