How to Know if You’re Wasting Your Time at Practice
Practice makes perfect right? Well not exactly. But practice can definitely make you better if you don’t waste your time practicing the wrong things the wrong way.
There is a reason why some people practice for 10,000 hours and become experts and others stop improving at the point of above average. It comes down to practice goals. Those who have a specific goal for every practice and have a means to measure as well as progress towards that goal will always continue to improve. This is knowing the what and how of practice.
Unquestionably, most people who practice anything focus on time more than anything else. Instead of focusing on the what and the how, they focus on how long. How long is important, but not as important as the what and the how.
Simply stated, if you haven’t put a significant amount of time thinking about the what and how of practice, you are probably wasting a lot of time not getting better.
