The First Step To Break Down Any Big Goal Into Smaller Attainable Goals
The first step in pursuing any difficult, long-term goal is to break down that goal into multiple smaller goals. This is not rocket science. It’s likely something you have been told and have told others many times.
However, as with most truisms in life, it’s easier said than done. The process of breaking a big goal into smaller goals often leads to analysis paralysis. What’s more, this analysis paralysis often leads to stagnation. Which then leads one to give up completely if there is no breakthrough. Fortunately, there is a way to get to that breakthrough sooner rather than later.
What makes a big goal big and seemingly difficult is your imagination. In addition, lacking imagination is what leads to analysis paralysis. Specifically, the struggle starts when you can’t imagine what you must do differently to get from where you are now to where you want to be. Therefore, the first step you must take to break down a big goal into smaller goals is to break this imagination barrier.
Breaking this barrier requires moving beyond the limitations of your mind. The only way to do this is to talk to people who have already achieved a goal like the goal you are pursuing. If you can’t find someone to talk to directly, then you must learn everything possible about these people through research. While research is not preferred, it’s better than nothing. But without doubt talking to someone directly is the best option.
Either way, this is how you start. You must learn the steps others took to get where you want to go and use that learning as the basis for breaking down your goal.
