For Goal-Oriented People, Gratitude is Critically Important
Being goal-oriented is a mindset, and so is having an attitude of gratitude. These two mindsets clash with each other when one dominates the other.
For goal-oriented people everything centers around achieving a goal. The focus is always on the next step, getting to the next level, and measuring progress. This mindset is great when in pursuit of purpose. However this mindset tends to become unhealthy when not balanced with an attitude of gratitude.
When there is no balance, goal-oriented people spend the majority of their time thinking about the future. This causes a lack of happiness on a day to day basis, even when there are many things to be happy about in the present.
On the other hand, when you have an attitude of gratitude, you learn to celebrate things happening in the present. You notice the good things that have already happened to you. Simply stated, when you show gratitude you are happy now, not waiting for something to happen to make you happy. Unfortunately, too much of this mindset is a recipe for complacency. When complacent, there is a lack of motivation to pursue progress. So it’s best to balance it out.
When goal-oriented people couple their mindset with an attitude of gratitude (or vice versa), they become the best version of themselves. They stop and smell the roses, while also planting new roses to smell in the future. This is a winning formula for life that’s hard to beat.
