Counterpoint: Being an Optimist When You Have No Plan is Not Faith
When things look bad, feel bad, and continue to trend in a bad direction, it’s generally better to be an optimist than a pessimist. Not only does optimism feel better, it’s also healthier.
BUT…there is a really big but to this…
There are times when people view the future with optimism and excuse their lack of planning by leaning on their faith. Just like optimism, having faith is critically important. However, when you couple faith and optimism with the lack of planning, you have a problem. There is no virtue in having faith when you are too lazy to take the time to plan.
If you have no plan, no ideas, no tactics, and no strategy, yet still remain optimistic that you can achieve the outcome you desire because of your faith, you’re being delusional. There is just no way around this. Faith and optimism must be supported by planning and execution. Otherwise, the future you’re optimistic about will always be in the future.
