This Short Quote Teaches Quick Lesson on How to Pursue Difficult Goals

Quotes are one of my favorite ways to teach life’s lessons. Research articles, blog post, videos, and books all have a place in the teaching process. However, memorizing a pithy quote on a timeless life lesson can often do more for actual learning than all of those things combined.

With that said, I have written nearly 100 blog post over the last 22 months on the topic of pursuing difficult goals. Some of them site the research of world renowned psychologist, and some of them are based on my personal experience. While not discounting this work, as there is a tremendous amount of value in the details, this single quote below may be the best lesson of them all.

Unquestionably, reading this one 16 word quote and remembering it is better than reading all 100 of my blog post and remembering nothing. This quote is attributed to Saint Francis Assisi:

Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

What could be more simple in terms of a process. Three steps that universally apply to nearly every goal you may want to pursue. What’s more, this quote fits perfectly with my belief in setting daily goals using the minimum viable change method.
