Winning Streaks Don’t Last Forever, But Better Does

Today I was catching up on Seth Godin’s daily blog. His post from a week ago today, Toward better, inspired the words used in my title today. The point Godin made was that winning and losing doesn’t last nor does happiness and sadness. However, progress can last if you make moving towards better a daily choice.

This simple yet profound insight is foundational for how I coach people. The focus always starts with using daily goals to work towards the best version of yourself. This requires identifying the minimum viable change to facilitate daily wins and tracking routine streaks to set the process as the goal and the goal as the compass.

This approach is how I help clients move towards better without overthinking what better means. The fact that winning streaks don’t last forever is the compass for better. Each day you complete all of your daily goals is a win, and each day in a row you win is your streak.

Your streak could be 1 day or 100 days. Either way, your better starts when you break your winning streak. The more you break your streak, the better you become. It’s that simple.
