The Uncomfortable Truth About Seeking Self-Knowledge
Seeking self-knowledge is the process of seeking to understand your strengths, passions, motivations, and interests. Often this process is accompanied by the desire to find purpose.
However, not all seekers of self-knowledge are equal and therefore do not gain the same knowledge about themselves or the benefits of this knowledge.
The uncomfortable truth is that many people who seek self-knowledge lie to themselves. They trick themselves into believing they are someone they are not.
This is typically do to a pursuit of money, fame, or beauty. It also could be because of a fear of not having these things. Instead of a genuine interest in gaining knowledge about themselves, the motivation is to convince themselves they are worthy.
In a vacuum, there is nothing wrong with money, fame, or beauty. But when they become the sole ambition, it’s extremely difficult for a person to see their true self rather than the self others perceive.
