The Simplest Way Parents Can Help Children with Motivation and Purpose
I offer a lot of 5-step tips and advice to help parents help their children develop self-motivation and purpose. I will be the first to admit that many of these suggestions require more than reading a 500 word blog post to implement.
With this in mind, today I have a rather simple 1 step suggestion. Something that is obvious in nature but taken for granted by far too many parents. The simplest way for a parent to help a child develop self-motivation and purpose is to be their living example of self-motivation and purpose.
If a parent doesn’t show self-motivation and purpose towards working to pursue meaningful goals, it’s hard to tell a kid that they should. We all know that kids don’t do what you say, they do what they see. This is a fact.
Simply stated, the best thing parents can do to teach children how to behave is to model those behaviors. Parents must intentionally show self-motivation to be the best version of themselves in front of their children. Parents must also model purpose by sharing their passions and their desire to achieve goals related to their passions with an impact bigger than self.
These two behaviors give parents the high-ground they need to develop self-motivation and purpose in their children. If you could only take one thing away from everything I write about, it would be this.
