Counterpoint: Being Successful Does not Reduce the Fear of Failure

There is a common fallacy that success can cure many emotional ills. One emotional ill in particular many think success will fix is the fear of failure. Unfortunately, this is just not true.

In fact, if you already have a fear of failure success will not reduce this fear, it will do the opposite. Success will increase your fear of failure. Even more so when you don’t experience failure often.

While this sounds like a negative spin on success, it’s not all bad. The fortunate side is that as success increases your fear of failure, it also increases your courage to face this fear. What’s more, success also increases your confidence when bouncing back from failure.

So while it may be true that highly successful people can fear failure as much or more than everyone else, it’s also true that they don’t let this fear hold them back from taking risk.
