When Commitment Turns into the Ultimate Bad Habit
A commitment starts with a promise and ends with fulfilling that promise with the appropriate action. When you don’t fulfill that promise with the appropriate action, an internal spiral towards the ultimate bad habit ensues.
- First, there is a sense of guilt.
- Then, the “I will do it tomorrow” mindset starts.
- Next, apathy sets in.
- Finally, the ultimate spiral into accepting that commitments are meaningless withers away at your character.
As the saying goes:
The first time you break a commitment it’s hard. The second time you break a commitment, it gets easier. The third time, you don’t even think about it. Then, from that point forward commitments mean nothing.
With this in mind, don’t make commitments you are not 100% sure you can keep. It’s better to not commit, than to commit and fail to follow through.
