5 Articles to Share with Parents Considering Youth Wrestling For Their Kids
It’s no secret that I love wrestling. It’s the world’s oldest and greatest sport. My dad was a wrestler, I was a wrestler, and I have two sons who both currently wrestle.
With this in mind, you won’t find it surprising when I say that I believe the world would be a better place if more people learned the life lessons taught by wrestling. Resilience, mental toughness, and self-discipline are among the most important of these lessons that wrestling teaches.
The popularity of wrestling is currently not comparable to those of the “ball” sports promoted by ESPN and other mainstream sports networks: basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, and golf. However, the last thing a parent should do is let the popularity of the sport deter them from introducing their kids to wrestling.
I would venture to say that you can find a youth or middle school wrestling program within a 30 minute drive of every major city and suburb in America. Without doubt, if you’re a parent serious about raising independent children who grow up mentally tough and resilient, you are being borderline negligent if you don’t at least try to get your children involved in wrestling.
Wrestling is not just a boys sport either. It’s a sport for both boys and girls. In fact, women’s wrestling is now one of the fastest growing high school sports in America.
