Can Fear Change Perspective When Lacking Motivation to Achieve Goals
Almost everyone has at least one goal. However, far too many people don’t ever achieve their goals. This is a sad but true fact.
Think about this for a second. Every year over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States. Getting a high school diploma is one of the most basic goals all parents have for their children. Furthermore, the college dropout rate is over 50%. This means the majority of people who have a goal of getting a college degree don’t achieve this goal.
So what should you do next if you keep setting goals and don’t achieve them? What do you do if you are starting to lack the motivation to keep going? I suggest trying something unorthodox.
Instead of starting with your goals, start with what you fear about failing to reach your goals. Think about all the things you don’t want to happen as a result of you continuing to fail at reaching your goals.
Then, write down all the ways you can give extra effort, stay up later, wake up earlier, and push your limits beyond what you did last time to prevent the things you don’t want to happen from happening. Finally, use this list to motivate you to be better, do better, and attack your goals with a fresh perspective.
