Jordan Burroughs Shares Simple Break Down of Sacrificing for Success
Jordan Burroughs is the greatest American freestyle wrestler of this generation. He is an Olympic wrestling champion, a 4x world champion, and recently just won his 8th world medal in total. Not only is wrestling the world’s oldest and greatest sport, it’s also the hardest. Undoubtedly, it’s safe to say he knows a little something about sacrifice.
Given that, when Jordan Burroughs says something about the meaning of sacrifice for him, I always take note. On his blog, he has an article titled Hold Yourself Accountable. In it he says the following about sacrifice:
Sacrifice is necessary, that means both doing more and doing less
This is a simple yet profound insight. All too often when we think about sacrifice it’s typically in the context of giving up something. While this perspective works in most situations, it’s not enough in those rare situations when trying to be world class at something.
As Jordan Burroughs alludes to, giving up stuff is only half of the equation. The other half of the sacrifice equation is doing something you’ve never done. This is either through doing more than one has ever done, or taking on challenges you were previously hesitant of fearful of doing.
