If Parents Could Do One Thing to Influence Their Child, It Should be This
They’re so many parenting experts providing so much advice, it’s nearly impossible to digest it all. As a result, one of my goals with this blog is to condense down this information overload. When I can capture the details of a topic into actionable themes that parents can digest quickly, I consider that a success.
For the most part, most of my blog post do this job. However, sometimes I can be a bit too wordy and as a result I miss the chance to state something plainly. Today I don’t plan to do this, so parents here is easily the best piece of parenting advice I’ve come to understand from reading numerous sources over the years.
Children don’t do what you say, they do what you do
If you want your children to be entrepreneurs when they grow up, then you should start a business while you’re still raising them. If you want your children to set goals and work everyday to achieve those goals, then you must set goals and work everyday to achieve your goals in front of them.
Are you getting the picture?
If you want your children to eat healthy, then you must eat healthy on a regular basis. If you want your children to be a leader, then you must show leadership in your daily life.
In short, the best way to influence your children to be something, do something, or behave some way is to live that example in front of their eyes. As the saying goes, children don’t do what you say they do what you do.
No, they probably won’t follow your example in the short term. However, history shows as most children grow older they slowly turn into a version of their parents. Therefore, the best sacrifice you can make is to have the discipline to be the person you want your children to be one day.
