Can a Child Really Just Be Plain Lazy?
It’ so easy to label a child who procrastinates or lacks effort as lazy. However, is calling a child like this lazy taking the easy way out?
In my opinion, yes! Labeling a child as lazy is just as lazy as being lazy. In effect, laziness is nothing more than a symptom for a larger problem. As a matter of fact, most are afraid to deal with that larger problem and that’s why they instead write-off the problem as plain laziness.
However, the truth is that if a child consistently acts lazy, then that child is really experiencing some other deeper issue that needs adult intervention to help them confront.
More likely than not, the root issue is closely related to one of the following:
- Fear
- Low self-esteem
- Lack of interest
- Lack of knowledge
- Lack of energy (due to bad diet / bad sleep habits)
- Depression
- Addiction
Each one of these issues can have serious long term impacts on a child. Therefore, it’s up to adults to not just write-off a kid as lazy, and instead investigate further to find out the root cause of the lazy behavior.
