The First Step to Building Good Habits

The First Step to Building Good Habits

If you want to develop good habits, you must understand that it’s not about having a strict routine. Thinking that a strict routine is a must will either deter you from starting, or will cause you to quit when you get off track for a few days.

Furthermore, I say “when” not “if” you get off track for a reason.

You. will. get. off. track.

A common misconception is that people who have good habits never have bad days. The truth is everybody has bad days, even the people we admire most.

In fact, understanding and accepting this fact is the first step to building good habits. Building good habits is all about your ability to keep trying to build good habits and not letting failure discourage you.

It’s really that simple.

  1. Define a goal to establish a good habit
  2. Start doing it every day.
  3. Have some bad days that cause you to fail at keeping your routine.
  4. Reflect on what caused the bad days, but don’t let the bad days discourage you from your goal.
  5. Make adjustments and start doing it every day again and repeat from step 3.
