When Going With Your First Instinct is Wrong
Instincts are amazing. In fight or flight situations instincts are essential to survival. However, when used for long term decision making they could be detrimental.
There are three reasons for this:
- By nature, instincts are emotional. Long term decisions should be based 80% on facts and 20% on emotion.
- Instincts are often used as a crutch to avoid the hard work of planning and evaluating options
- Relying on your instincts exclude getting the advice from experienced mentors and coaches
