Investing in a Young Athlete’s Talent Isn’t Enough When Not Self-Motivated
For the last 10 days my sole focus was breaking down the basics of what drives a young athlete’s self-motivation. My goal was to show how self-motivation is the product of core values. What’s more, when young athletes don’t have self-motivation, parents who spend significant money on youth sports often want success more than the child wants it for him or her self. That is a recipe for an unhappy sports family.
Therefore, no matter how much money a parent spends on nurturing their child’s talents, it won’t be enough without self-motivation. A child could be on the best team, have the best practice partners, learn from the best coach, with access to the best facilities, face the best competition, and it could be all for naught.
The fact is, you must spend as much time and money investing in developing your child’s core values as you do developing their talents.
