Stunning Stats on Fatherless Homes
One of my favorite daily blogs to read is AllProDad.com. I subscribe to their daily email and always look forward to reading their Play of the Day.
In today’s “play” they shared some stunning stats on fatherless homes that made my jaw drop.
80% of prisoners come from fatherless homes and fatherless children are:
1) 4 times more likely to live in poverty
Source: The Father Absence Crisis in America
2) 7 times more likely to deal with teen pregnancy
3) More likely to perform poorer in school
4) More likely to abuse alcohol and drugs
It almost goes without saying that fathers and mothers are equally important to the life of a child. However, sometimes I get the feeling that society values fathers less and marginalizes the importance of dads. As the father of two sons, and the son of a great dad, I take this marginalization personally.
For this reason, I believe the most important thing this generation of men can do is lead their families and do their absolute best to serve as role models for future fathers. The era of the absentee father must end.
