Finding the Point

Finding the Point

The start of the year is as good as time as any to ask what’s the point.

  • What’s the point of setting and writing down goals? The point is that if you don’t know where you’re going, you can’t get there.
  • What’s the point of living a healthy lifestyle? The point is survival. When you take care of your mind and body not only is it harder for other people to kill you, it’s harder to kill yourself.
  • What’s the point of saving money? The point is that your future self will like you more if you gave them a few extra thousand dollars to work with.
  • What’s the point of hate? The point is to express extreme displeasure against something that caused an unhealed emotional wound.
  • What’s the point of revenge? The point is to try to make yourself feel better after feeling hate.
  • What’s the point of love? The point is to satisfy the innate human need of belonging in this world and believing there is something to live for.

As it turns out, it’s better to make a point that’s more about the future and less about the past. That’s the point.
