Use the Fear of Failure to Propel Your New Year

Use the Fear of Failure to Propel Your New Year

Everyone fears failure, at least a little bit. Fear is typically a good indicator that you really care about something, like fearing for your life. Having higher levels of fear is an indication that something matters more.  I believe this indicator is the positive side of fear that we all must harness.

As a result, going into this new year, I suggest that you try something different with your fears.

Instead of starting with what your goals, start with what you fear about failing to reach your goals. Imagine a few of the scenarios that could cause you to fail at reaching your biggest goals.  Then, write down all the ways you can give extra effort, stay up later, wake up earlier, and push your limits beyond what you did this year to prevent facing this failure.

This “overcome the fear of failure” list then becomes your fuel to propel your new year resolutions.
