Why The Process is the Goal and the Goal is the Compass
A few months back I broke down a blueprint for success at pursuing long term goals. The basic idea is that pursuing a long term goal is extremely difficult. It requires patience, passion, and discipline. And even with those three things in place, success may still be out of reach. This is why it’s more appropriate to set the process as the goal, and let the goal serve as the compass.
If the process is the goal, then achieving your goal is 100% within your control. By having complete control of your success or failure, you eliminate all external excuses. What’s more, when the process is the goal you can regularly measure progress, success, or failure by your ability to stay on track following the process.
I believe the biggest mistake made when pursuing long term goals is focusing too much on the goal and not enough energy on the process. Eliminate this mistake, and your chance of achieving your long term goals will increase tenfold.
