Practice Eliminating Procrastination with this Daily Routine

It’s not often I come across advice so good that I want to apply it first thing in the morning. But that’s just what happened today. I was reading an article on Inc.com and this advice popped out and stung me in the heart.

The article is titled Here are the Little Things Highly Successful People do Differently to Get Ahead of Everyone Else.  It includes 30 tips from CEOs, executives, and founders.  At first I just scanned through the tips assuming each tip was more of the same.

Since articles like this are a dime a dozen, my expectations were pretty low.  However, I started to feel a little guilty after I read tip #10.  Even though I kept scanning on down to tip #30, my mind kept lingering on #10.  Tip #10 came from Daniel Sloan, a former Marine who co-founded the company BlockchainSaw.  His tip is perfect to practice eliminating procrastination.

Sloan states:

…If you are like me, it takes a lot of discipline to not give in to the voice in your head telling you to ‘sleep just five more minutes.’ It might seem like a harmless thing to do, but it’s a trap. I am a big believer in intention, and if the first intention of your day is to give in to procrastination or laziness, then you could fall into that same trap with important decisions that have more impact in your life…

Practice Eliminating Procrastination Daily by Immediately Waking Up

As summed up by Sloan, “get out of bed immediately after waking”.  This is such a “simple” daily routine to practice eliminating procrastination. Then again, simple might not be the right word.  As this is easier said than done.

I’m so flagrant, I set two alarms so I can turn the first one off and keep sleeping until the second. Not anymore. Starting tomorrow morning I am going to use every ounce of discipline in my body to get out of bed immediately after waking.

How about you?
