Rosemary Might Be The Herb We Should All Be Growing

There is a lot of talk in the news lately about herbs. Specifically, about the legalization of cannabis. However, I would argue the herb we should focus on instead is rosemary.

Rosemary has a long history of being a super “herb of remembrance”. It is said that ancient Greek students wore garlands of rosemary in exams to improve memory. Also, Ophelia in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, says: “There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance.”

What’s more,  ancient Egyptians buried the herb with the pharaohs. They believed that rosemary has magical powers to banish evil spirits. The ancient Egyptians also burned the herb as a disinfectant and used it to ward off the plague.

New research shows a form of rosemary can improve memory up to 15%

With this in mind, research I came across today has me sold on growing rosemary at my house. According to research published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology:

Those drinking No1 Rosemary Water shots saw an average increase of 15% in performance as well as an increase in the levels of deoxygenated red blood cells flowing through their brain. The researchers believe this indicates that the brain is extracting the energy it requires to perform the task more efficiently.

No1 Rosemary water is a  “unique and secret combination of extraction processes.” The only information provided on how to make it is that the developers of it only use fresh, non-dried rosemary and the herb is cold brewed.

While I may not be able to replicate this process, I’m still going to grow this herb around my house. I also plan on using the rosemary essential oils. I doubt my family and I get a 15% memory boost, but that’s besides the point. Even if we got a 1% memory  boost it would be fun and worth my while. If it’s good enough for the Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Greeks, it’s good enough for me.
