Top 10 Things Serious Sports Parents Worry About

If you are a serious sports parent like me, you worry about your child’s participation in sports a lot.  Probably too much.  On any given night, there are probably at least 2 or 3 things keeping you from resting easy related to your kids and sports.

Based on my own worries, as well as my discussions with other parents in the same boat as me, here are the top 10 things we (over) think and worry about.

  1. Your child’s safety from predators

  2. Holding a child back a grade to give them an extra year to mature

  3. Your child’s injuries and/or other health concerns

  4. The cost of private coaching, travel teams and competition

  5. Moving your family to another location to get better access to coaches and/or competition

  6. Your child’s diet and/or eating habits

  7. Changing your child’s school or team to give them access to better coaching and teammates (or a chance to win a championship)

  8. Your child burning out or quitting before they reach their full potential

  9. Your child playing video games too often

  10. Changing to home schooling or to a private school

What do you think?  What would you add to the list?
