Need a Breakthrough? Evaluate The People Around You
Every once in a while I wake up feeling stuck. I wake up feeling that I need a breakthrough. Today, it’s the start of a new month that brings me this feeling. Other times, it could be something as mundane as a rainy day.
Regardless of the spark, it’s a terrible feeling when you need a breakthrough and you don’t know what to do about it. Instead of wallowing in this feeling, today I took some action. I spent about 90 minutes researching my favorite personal growth and entrepreneurial sites in search for a solid approach.
To be perfectly honest, there’s not a ton of actionable approaches available from the pundits. However, I was able to piece together one solid nugget. I came across a nice article addressing issues with not achieving goals. The author suggested as a first step you need to evaluate the people around you.
The author states:
How are you utilizing people to achieve your goals? Are the people in your life making you more likely or less likely to achieve what you want?
Make a list of the people who surround you and determine what assets they bring to the table that can help you achieve your desired outcome. Conversely, what liabilities do they carry that can negatively impact your ability to reach your goal?
From there, make a plan on how you plan to utilize their knowledge, skills, abilities and relationships to achieve your desired outcomes — or on how you plan to prevent them from interfering.
Reading this gave me an “aha” moment. It’s may not be that I need to achieve a specific goal, but I do need a breakthrough that will result in some new goals. As such, this appears to be a great way to take action and stop thinking and start doing.
