The “Laziness” Excuse

The “Laziness” Excuse

Humans love to use laziness as a catch all for why something isn’t getting done.  We use the term “lazy”  to browbeat ourselves when we choose to binge watch a show instead of working towards our goals.  We also use it to browbeat our children, spouse, and friends when they choose to sleep, play video games, golf, shop, etc. instead of working toward their dreams.

The fact of the matter is that very few people are truly lazy and laziness is just an excuse. We use this excuse because we are wired by our culture to explain away a truth we don’t want to confront.

Here are just a few examples of what you may be using laziness as an excuse for:

  • Fear
  • Low self-esteem
  • Lack of interest
  • Lack of knowledge
  • Lack of energy (due to bad diet / health)
  • Depression
  • Addiction

Instead of taking the easy way out and calling yourself or someone you love lazy, try to dig deeper and challenge yourself to confront the real problem.
